Values of Tradition - Preface
Klaus Cieciera
Managing Director
The Lopshorn Hunting Lodge Reconstruction Initiative
charitable limited company
Dear Sir / Madam,

Until 1945 the Lopshorn hunting lodge and stud were numbered among the most important cultural assets in the Lippe region, representing a unique example of an aristocratic hunting lodge and stud complex of the famous Senner horses combined at the same location. Lopshorn served also as a link between Detmold, the seat of the royal house of Lippe, and Augustdorf.

The demise of the castle was a great loss for the Senne region.

he non-profit-making organization was founded in May 2003.

he challenges presented by a rebuilding of Castle Lopshorn are many. Apart from the obligatory financial tasks and the public relations work required, there are special factors to be considered in this case. First of all, a consensus needs to be reached between environmental protection, military use and a touristic concept. It is therefore essential that all parties involved work together closely and in a spirit of cooperation.

lot has already happened or been initiated. For example, in 2008 the former grounds of Castle Lopshorn were listed as historical grounds. A structural planning concept will follow.

Dr. Armin Prinz zur Lippe, probably the most competent contemporary witness, wrote the “Chronik Jagdschloss und Gestüt Lopshorn” (Chronicle of the Lopshorn Hunting Lodge and Stud Farm) which included an incredibly extensive amount of photographic material. An attractive collection of photographic material is thus available to convey the history of Lopshorn to the general public in an entertaining and informative way.

The latest development opens up completely new opportunities - namely, an endeavour to create a "Senne-Eggegebirge National Park" which would include the area around the former Castle Lopshorn. This could then become quasi the gateway to the National Park, illustrating the significance of the Senne to environmental protection and at the same time would have a unique selling point in the affiliated stud farm for the Senne horses. These topics could then provide scope for a wide range of actions and attractions, all of them integrated in a touristic concept orientated towards protecting the environment.

This alone makes clear that the aim of the initiative is of course not to return the castle to the private ownership of the princely family. The focus is instead on all the efforts to create a meeting place for the public which is both rich in tradition, protects the environment and is used for horse breeding, and at the same time is important to the municipality of Augustdorf, the Senne region and the district of Lippe.

Let yourself be inspired and embrace the idea of combining the values of tradition with the tasks of the future. Help us to make visions reality!

Yours
Klaus Cieciera
